Beyond trucks, bikes, helmets debates there is A LOT to be improved and done for PEOPLE. People who walk and people who ride bikes and their safety, as well as people behind a wheel being responsible at all times in a vehicle. As humans: seconds of distraction, impatience, carelessness MATTER.
A LIFE WAS LOST.
A LIFE.
I think about what her family and loved ones are going through. It is something I DO NOT wish to no one, no one ever. to go through. EVER.
This affects all of us in the walking and bicycle community.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family, and anyone that knows the intensity and deep sadness of sudden premature loss.
Life is fragile, be safe out there - please.

big hugs to you, friend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI get so frustrated, every time there is a fatality the local media goes over everything the pedestrian/cyclist may or ma not have been doing. They totally ignore the obvious, the fast that they were struck and killed by a car.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that I really wish would happen, is that people would realize that they actually, honestly could kill someone. Almost nobody really wants that, and nobody wants to live with having killed someone, whether through negligence, pure accident, or whatever. But nobody thinks about it. They drive well beyond their ability to control their vehicles as if that's perfectly sane and normal, and they expect that nothing unexpected will ever happen.
ReplyDeleteThis is a recipe for disaster, obviously. Unfortunately, our governments aren't doing much to change the situation either, whether it be by changing/enforcing the law, making better infrastructure, or better educating citizens. And so everything just rushes on in more and more chaos, the media starts battles between 'drivers' and 'cyclists', which even increases the hysteria more, and we keep changing the roads to make it 'safer' for people to go faster and faster.
And so, the death count keeps ticking...
Almost as many people die in car crashes every year in the U.S. as U.S. soldiers died in Vietnam in 20 years.
THAT is insane. Literally, not sane. People just going from one place to another, and dying as if it were a war.
I will think of Amelie and set aside a moment of silence today. So tragic and unnecessary.
